Microblading vs microshading

Microblading is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing done by hand. A blade-shaped tool with a row of tiny needles creates hair-like strokes and deposits pigment just under the skin's surface, so it fades over time instead of staying permanently like a traditional tattoo. It gives a natural look and is best for dry to normal skin.

Microshading uses a hand-held machine to place tiny dots of pigment that fill in thin spots, giving a soft, powdered, light-makeup finish. It suits all skin types, and is what most people mean by ombré brows or powder brows. Hybrid brows combine microblading strokes with microshading.

What your PMU procedure looks like

Every PMU treatment takes place over two sessions, and the consultation is included in your first one. Your technician talks through your expectations, medical history and any medication, then maps and measures your brows to suit your face shape. Feel free to bring photos of the look you want.

The first session takes about 2 hours. Brows look darker for up to 5 days, then gradually soften to match your natural colour after about 4 weeks. You'll return 8 weeks later for your perfecting session (about 1 hour), where we refine the shape and thickness and check colour retention. Results can last 1–3 years, and some clients choose a maintenance session every 6–8 months.

Before your appointment

To reduce bruising and help the pigment settle, please avoid:

• Alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen and fish oil for 24 hours before.
• Waxing or plucking your brows for 1 week before.
• Facials for at least 2 weeks before.
• Sunbathing and tanning on the day.
• Retinol or vitamin A products for 1 month before.

Aftercare

Keep your brows dry for the first 7–10 days, don't pick or touch them, and clean them gently twice a day. Apply a thin layer of the aftercare ointment we give you, and avoid direct sun, pools, saunas and heavy sweating for at least two weeks. Non-permanent brow treatments

Brow lamination and tint straightens and lifts your brow hairs into a uniform shape and adds pigment for fullness. Brow Sculpt maps and waxes your brows to your shape with Depiléve wax, with or without a tint.
